Pastor of Care


Melvin Colón serves as Associate Pastor of Care and also leads the Spanish Ministry, Nuevos Comienzos.   


History: Melvin was born in Chicago, Ill but grew up primarily in California and Puerto Rico (PR).  His father received a call to preach in Puerto Rico when Melvin was 12. It was in PR where Melvin was saved and subsequently called to preach the gospel at age 16.  Melvin lived in Puerto Rico for 10 years so he is able to minister both in English and Spanish.  Melvin and his wife Margarita have been married since 1994 and have two boys, Ishmael and Jesse.

Ministry: Melvin began working on staff at Park West as a Minister of Care in 2002; he and his wife Margarita began a Spanish Ministry here in 2005 and continue to do so in the present.  As of February 2013, he’s the Associate Pastor of Care. During his time of ministry at Park West, he also served as a volunteer community service chaplain with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department (99'-06').

Education: Melvin graduated from Universidad Teológica del Caribe (BA Pastoral Studies) and the Pentecostal Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity- counseling).

Passion: Melvin has a passion for pastoral care, discipleship and mentoring. He and his wife enjoy foreign missions, having been on several trips to Central and South America.  

Spanish Ministry: In January, 2005 Melvin and Margarita were led by the Lord to begin the Spanish Ministry "Nuevos Comienzos" at Park West Church. Today, Nuevos Comienzos (New Beginnings) offers Sunday evening worship services at 6 pm, a Wednesday night bible study at 7 pm, a couples ministry as well as meetings for men and women. People from different walks, from many nations are being touched by God right here in Knoxville.
